“This body of work is an extension of my bodied existence; its oppositional gaze (informed by lived human experiences of oppression, invisibility, and inequity) questions the assumed traditions of canon, genre, setting, or style by centering marginalized subjects and queer perspectives, and by affirming the dynamic folklore and intergenerational specificities of region, dialect, and diaspora instead of reinforcing a homogenous national identity or mainstream institutional norm.”
